Meal planner: Kid-friendly dinners
Healthy, kid-friendly meals from New World.
How many times have parents pleaded with their children: “but it’s good for you”, or the classic: “no dessert until after you finish your vege.” Getting kids to eat what you put in front of them is hard enough, getting them to eat something healthy can seem impossible. Kathy Paterson shares three vege-packed meals that will see everyone’s plates licked clean, especially the kids.
Tips for getting more vege into your kids
Grated vege can seem a lot less daunting to kids, especially if it is mixed with something they like, like pasta.
Use leftover vege scraps to make vege broth that can be frozen and used as a basis for many meals, providing a nutrient hit they won’t even know about.
Add herbs and spices to your vege to make them more appealing – cinnamon and carrot mash is amazing!
Cheese pairs beautifully with lots of vege – think cauliflower or broccoli gratin.
Pureeing cooked vege and adding it to a pasta sauce is a great, sneaky trick – roasted capsicum in wonderful blended in a tomato-based sauce.
