Meal planner: Eastern inspiration
New World brings you a week of fresh Asian-inspired meals this week. Blend, stir and whisk your favourite Asian flavours together to achieve fabulous fusion food at home.
Chefs are always pushing culinary boundaries, mixing their miso with their mash or their tofu with their tacos and giving us an ever-changing array of dining options. Lately it has been all about Asian fusion, with eateries popping up all over town offering everything from high end, to a hole in the wall roti wrap, and we are loving it. So, what is to stop us trying to create some fusion eats at home? With a little help from Kathy Paterson the answer is, absolutely nothing.

Ingredient in focus: Watercress has a fresh, peppery flavour and it goes well in soups, salads and (of course) chicken sandwiches. Watercress is high in beneficial nutrients including vitamins K, C and A. Watercress is very perishable, so needs to be fresh when purchased. Choosing a pre-packed bag of watercress from the produce section is a good way to know exactly when it was harvested.
New World fresh tip: Finding the time to make a healthy meal every night can be exhausting so we like to find time saving shortcuts whenever we can. A huge time saver is pre-chopped and grated vege. For this week’s carrot pickle you can grab a bag of pre-grated carrot from New World, and for the speediest of stir fries pre-cut Asian veg is a godsend.
