Winter squash turns into a rich, creamy, decadent delight this week, while one of our favourite and most versatile pasta varieties, ozro, works its magic thanks to some great tips from our friends at New World.
Winter squash is similar in appearance to buttercup squash. It has a light and sweet with a moist, soft texture which makes it perfect for this creamy carbonara we have for you this week. Leek, fennel and shitake mushrooms also add some fragrant variety to dinners this week.

Now’s the time to enjoy the fresh autumn and winter veg on offer. Try this recipe with Butternut Squash! It’s excellent buying at New World and lends a sweet, nutty flavor to the dish. Choose a butternut with even, undamaged skin that feels heavy in the hand.
The lovely tall leeks you see at your local New World have been slowly growing in Manawatu fields since summer. They’ve just been harvested for your winter cooking, so they’re plentiful and great buying right now. Give them a good wash and they’ll be a great addition to soups or just as they are, chopped, cooked and served with a drizzle of olive oil.
