5 things you can do here

Register and set up a profile

As a registered user of Eat Well, you will be able to create a profile of yourself. Once registered and logged in, click on the my Eat Well button on the top of the page. Head to the profile tab to create your profile and upload your photo (avatar). Your profile is a place where you tell us more about yourself including your blog, website or social media pages. Don’t want a public profile? That’s okay too – leave the Make my profile public box unchecked. You can still submit recipes, comment and share with others.

Browse recipes and create collections

Browse through our recipes online - we have over 10,000 recipes - as well as cooking tips and tricks, collections and videos - all created with the aim of helping you become a better cook. If you've found a recipe you like, you can save (we call it favourite) a recipe to your profile and come back to it when you're ready to use it.

You can organise your favourite (saved) recipes into handy collections (see FAQ below), making it easier to sort and find recipes by categories of your choice. And the best part is, you can add in your own recipes and other reader recipes to compile your personal online cookbook.

And here's a tip: set up a menu plan for the week by saving recipes to collections for different meals of the day or times of the week. For example: Midweek dinners, Office lunchbox, Weekend dinners, Quick breakfasts, Easy desserts, School lunchbox

Upload your own recipes

Our reader recipe section is where you get to add your very recipes. You need to be a registered user of Eat Well with Bite to add recipes. By logging in, you will be able to upload your recipes as well as share recipe, comments and tips with others in the Eat Well community. Think you've got a good recipe? Enter it into one of the fabulous reader recipe competitions we run regularly.

Create shopping lists

Once logged in and on a recipe page, you can click the +add to shopping list button below the ingredients. This will move the ingredients to the right hand column. Keep adding ingredients to the list as you continute to browse recipes.

To edit the shopping list, you can hover over an item to drag and reorder your shopping list or click the trash can if you already have it in your cupboard. When you have finished planning your meals simply hit the copy button to save to another document, print button to send the list to your printer, or email button to have the list delivered directly to your inbox. Perfect to take to the supermarket.

Win great prizes

As a member of the Eat Well community, you'll be able to enter the many promotions and competitions we run online. As long as you fulfil the terms and conditions, you'll be in with a chance to win great prizes ranging from food products, cookbooks, vouchers, kitchen gear and from time-to-time, a trip overseas. Go to our competitions section to see the current competitions.

Frequently asked questions

What is Eat Well?

Eat Well is an amalgamation of all the recipes from some of New Zealand’s most trusted newspapers and magazines – Be Well, Viva, Herald on Sunday, the New Zealand Herald, Element, New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, New Zealand Listener and more.

How do I register with Eat Well?

Click on the green register now button and either follow the instructions to create an account or use your existing Facebook or Google+ accounts.

What is mybite?

mybite is the section that is your dedicated space on the Eat Well site. As soon as you've registered and logged in, you'll see a button at the top right of the page called my Eat Well. This takes you to a personal profile where you can view recipes that you have saved (called favourite recipes). Navigate using the grey tabs to also view your collections, personal details as well as recipes that you've personally loaded via our reader recipe section.

How do I create a personal profile?

As a registered user of Eat Well, we encourage you to create a profile of yourself. Once registered and logged in, click on the my Eat Well button on the top of the page. Head to the profile tab and in the box called Profile about me, write a personal profile by telling us more about yourself including your blog, website or social media pages. You can also upload a photo of yourself in the my avatar area.

Can anyone see my profile?

You can choose to keep your profile public or private. To change your privacy settings, log in and click on the my Eat Well button in the top right corner, and go to the profile tab, and scroll down to the preferences section to the Make my profile public checkbox.

When your profile is set to public, people can see your avatar (photo), your username and the blurb that you wrote about yourself. They will also see your favourited recipes, recipes you’ve created and any collections you’ve made. They will not see any private details.

Don’t want a public profile? That’s okay too – leave the box unchecked. You can still submit recipes, comment and share with others, but your profile, collections and favourited recipes will remain private.

How do I search for recipes?

Search for recipes by typing into the search box at the top of every page. You can search by ingredient (e.g. carrot, garlic, salmon) or by name of the dish (e.g. pizza, pasta, sandwich). By using the left-hand filters, search results can then be filtered by:

  • type (e.g. recipe, reader recipe, video, article or collection)
  • meals & courses
  • seasons
  • diet type
  • author
  • publication
  • world food

Another way to search is by going to the recipe section, and using the category filters such as main ingredient, meals and courses, season and world food, publication and author.

How do I favourite (or save) a recipe?

When you click on a recipe page, look out for a red heart and you’ll find the add to favourites button. When you click this, the recipe will be automatically saved to your profile page, under all favourites. If it is a recipe you’ve already favourited, it will say favourited. You can save that recipe to a collection you’ve already made, or create a new one.

How do I save a recipe to a collection?

To save a recipe to a collection, you need to begin on the recipe page. Here's how you do it:

  1. Click on a recipe
  2. Hover over the red heart
  3. This will reveal a panel called Add to my collections that lists the collections you’ve created
  4. Click the plus sign (+) to add that recipe to the relevant collection/s
  5. You can also add a new collection here. In the box that called New collection, enter the name of your new collection and click on the plus sign (+) to add the recipe.

Can I update my account details?

Yes – you can change your details by logging in, and clicking the my Eat Well button at the top right of each page to access your profile.

How do I unsubscribe from newsletters?

You can unsubscribe from the link at the bottom of the e-newsletter, or visit your profile page to update your preferences.

How do I upload my own recipes?

You'll need to be a registered user on the Eat Well site to share your own recipes. Go to the reader recipe section to see what it's all about, or check out these FAQs to learn more.
